The Lydia Circle was organized in the Spring of 2004.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Like Lydia, the Circle's mission is to be an arm of the church, encircling the needs of the community and world. Through our prayers, gifts, and talents we seek to serve Christ by reaching out to those who need God's help.
WHO WAS LYDIA?:
Lydia was a Gentile who became a Jewish proselyte who worshipped God. As head of her household, she may have been either widowed or single. She was also a successful businesswoman who sold a type of cloth that was prized for its "purple color."
Often business people are so engrossed in their affairs as to have no time for religion. But, in spite of her obligations, she found time to worship according to the Jewish faith. Although deeply religious, Lydia was not a Christian until she met Paul and heard him speak of Jesus Christ. As evidence of her surrender to Christ, she was baptized, as was her entire household. She had the distinction of being Paul's first convert in Europe and the first member of the church at Phillipi.
Lydia eagerly opened her home and extended hospitality to Paul and his companions, even after their imprisonment. Her business allowed her to have the money to support Paul and the church.
