Mission opportunities abound at Cannon’s Camp Ground United Methodist Church. We take seriously the words of Jesus when he preached to the people and taught his disciples about serving others.
We see in Matthew 25: 34-36;40, “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. The King replied, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did for me.”
We are called by God to help God’s people in all the ways we can help. Whether it is through monetary support, material goods, or simply acts of love and compassion, we have accepted this call as a church.
We, as a church, have paid our apportionments every year for more than twenty-years. Much of the apportionments are divided among United Methodist Church-supported missions. We also support local, state, and global missions through our apportionments and through United Methodist Women.

There are many other missions that individual Sunday School classes support including these listed above.
During the year, our children and youth have special fundraisers for the Alzheimer’s Association and the MS Society (Multiple Sclerosis) because we have many people in our church directly and indirectly affected by these two diseases. They also have food drives for the Spartanburg Humane Society and local food banks. The youth have a Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt every year that ends up feeding more than 15 families. The children and youth also put together care packages for the Children’s Shelter, nursing home residents, college students, and more.
At Christmas, we have an “Angel Tree,” for students in School District Three. We have supported 25 junior high and high school age children.
One of the largest supported missions for our church is the Cowpens Salkehatchie Camp. We also have adults and youth who attend other Salkehatchie camps during the summer. (Please see the “Salkehatchie” Menu Option to the left of your screen for more information.)
People also volunteer at many of the agencies mentioned above. We seek to give not only our money, but also our time and talents. A mission is more than giving…it is putting our Christian faith into action.
COMING SOON:
We are working on some mission trips to other states and hopefully abroad.
Another new feature we have for missions is “MISSION OF THE MONTH.” Each month, we will highlight a mission and its special needs and “wish list.” Please click on the "helping hands link" below to see the MISSION OF THE MONTH.
