Rev. Douglas Gilliland

Rev. Douglas Gilliland serves Cannon's Camp Ground United Methodist Church as the primary Minister. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College, Wofford College, and USC, Spartanburg. He is a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University and received a Master of Divinity (M-DIV) from Emory University - Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia.

Doug is the oldest of two surviving children born to Odell and Emma Lee Gilliland of Boiling Springs, SC. His older brother died after having lived only 10 days after birth. He has a sister, Lynn, who is six years younger than he. Doug is married to Frances "Lynn" Scoggins Gilliland and has one son, Matthew.

Missions work has always been near to Doug's heart and in 1988 he answered an appeal from Volunteer In Missions at his home church (Bethel UMC - Spartanburg) where he went to the Philippines and then to Honduras as part of Volunteer Missions Teams.

After following that invitation to join a "Volunteers In Missions" team to the Philippines in 1988 and then his second missions trip to Honduras in 1990, Doug gave up an eleven year career with Michelin Corporation to answer his call to the ministry.

It was during his second missions trip, to Honduras, that he felt God's call to become more than he was at that time. After several discussions with trusted clergy friends, he went through the Inquiring Candidate Process and then the requirements of becoming a Full Elder of The United Methodist Church.

During his ministry he has served and supported South Carolina United Methodist Churches and congregations at Calhoun Falls, Bogansville, Loris, Salem at Greenville, St. John & Warrenville at Graniteville, and Cannon's Camp Ground at Spartanburg.

Doug is now in his 16th year of ministry and says that he knows more than ever that God is in control and has a plan for all of us.

When asked, Doug will tell you that it has been a joy for him to serve the people of the great churches across South Carolina and that he has been blessed with a loving wife, Lynn, who has always given him her constant support and encouragement.
